FOOD

Squash for Thanksgiving

October 2016 my literacy class voted to learn about food. Because the Thanksgiving holiday was the following week, our first module involved writing a Language Experience Approach book based on our having cooked and eaten a squash to celebrate Thanksgiving. Here are the materials and resources for you to edit and use if you decide to create a similar module:

Lien Buys Food

An excellent resource for Phase I Initial learners is the ESL Literacy Network's reader Lien Buys Food.
Here is the Lien Buys Food Activity Pack I created to complement it. You can edit the names on the Yes / No quiz and on the BINGO game. I'm sure your learners don't want to read about me and my students.
This is a Word Shapes worksheet.
Here is a Word Search puzzle.
A teacher has kindly shared her Liveworksheet of the vocab matching activity.

Lien Goes Shopping

Bow Valley College School of Global Access has diverged from the Canadian Language Benchmarks. This reader is graded Level C, which I think would have been called Phase 1 adequate in the past. It's a higher level version of Lien Buys Food.
Here is the Lien Goes Shopping Activity Pack I have made to complement the reader. It's a PDF. If you need access to the original in Google slides in order to edit, shoot me a line.

These materials are meant to supplement the activities provided in the Talk of the Block Short Vowel Series of books, SHOPPING volume, page 29 - "The Shopping List." The worksheets were created and are being shared with permission from New Reader's Press.
