If you would like to learn more about me than fits on my abbreviated resumé, read on.
I am VERY comfortable with technology. Take a look.
I LOVE solving problems and helping people. When the adult education center where I worked did not have a canteen nor money even to create a small corner with microwave and coffee machine, I took it upon myself to buy an industrial sized water boiler. I converted a discarded audio-visual cart into a tea and coffee station for our two hundred clients and made a vinyl cover for it on my sewing machine. For five years I took sole responsibility for the shopping, filling of dispensers, cleaning and monitoring the hospitality station.
I created this poster, had it laminated, and posted it over the tea station to make the rules easy to understand even to those still learning the rudiments of English.
I like playing with graphics and have greatly enjoyed creating my own teaching resources from scratch, sharing them with ESL teachers across Canada on this website for the past ten years. With a graphic tablet and illustration software, I've been able to create images that I could not find copyright free on the Internet. My favourite platform for putting images together with text for flyers, booklets, and worksheets is Google Drawing. I have also used these graphic skills to create tutorials with screenshots and arrows for department handbooks and user guides.
I am good with my hands and enjoy detail work such as sewing my own clothes on the machine my grandmother handed down to me decades ago. With the advent of COVID restrictions, I gladly made quality masks for my friends and neighbors. I am resourceful; when stores ran out of thin elastic, I bought packs of 45" shoelaces. I enjoy using tools to build and assemble things and have a good eye that would make me suitable for quality control work. I do not like doing things in a slapdash way and willingly spend extra hours hand-sewing details on my garments.
Though I found adult education to be extremely satisfying, I am open to finding my livelihood in any number of different settings. My temperament is well suited to office work. Every job listed on my resume was rewarding to me in some way. I do best when I have an outlet for my need to keep things tidy and organized while applying my problem-solving skills. Though I work well with the public and am very patient, I do better in a quieter work space than in a hectic one.
