My name is Kelly. I have mixed feelings about the idea of using the internet to find new friends, but trying to find them by just going out and participating in my hobbies is proving to be a slow slog. So I am creating this space as a parking place for some photos and information about my interests, lifestyle, and hobbies.
This photo was taken in summer of 2022 during a weekend getaway with my then 91-year-old mother, Dottie. She enjoyed sketching the trees in hopes of turning that into a watercolor painting while I hopped over to Bois d'Arc WMA to get my first ever glimpse of Purple Gallinule for my birding life list.

So what is my objective? I am not looking for a long-term romantic relationship at this time. I am hoping to meet one or two people of any gender / gender expression or sexual orientation who would like to get together on occasion for conversation, a movie, a meal, a hike, or a community event. Here are some topics and activities that are of interest to me:
  • plant-based diet
  • socialism
  • Quakerism, meditation, Buddhism, and mindfulness practice
  • Music: Old Time, bluegrass, roots, real gritty Delta Blues, folk
  • biology, nature, flora and fauna
  • birding
  • sewing my own clothes
  • languages (I can practice ASL, Spanish and more with you)
  • architecture, especially Arts & Crafts movement in America
  • table and board games for 2-4, such as Quarto, SET, tangrams, Scrabble
  • films, especially independent, quirky, offbeat ones
  • cooking and baking, especially plant-based
  • dining out when it's possible to find good unprocessed plant-based options without a lot of added oil, salt and sugar (I haven't found many such options in LR/NLR)
Other things to know about me: I am not a huge fan of telephone conversations, perhaps in part due to my hearing loss. I wear bilateral hearing aids. Brief voice calls as well as texts are great for establishing when and where we will meet up.

Some activities I currently do on my own include: attending events put on by Quapaw Quarter Association; joining the audience at Rackensack Folklore Society and the hootenanny many of them participate in in between first Mondays; seeing movies at Riverdale10; swimming at the Hays Center; going on gentle hikes; birding; reading in cafés; sewing. I also make my elderly mother's comfort a priority, as I'm back after 21 years in Canada to spend quality time with her in her (presumably) last decade of life. This is a picture of me where I worked for ten years as an ESL instructor to adult immigrants and refugees in Canada.
