Mo Stays Warm
CLB 1L Beginning learners who have never experienced Ontario winter before will gain needed knowledge from the Bow Valley College's reader Mo Stays Warm.
Here are some materials I have created to supplement the reader:

From Liberia to Nova Scotia from Halifax Immigrant Learning Centre relates to weather and clothing. This reader was not difficult for my CLB 1L to 2L class so long as we mastered it a few pages at a time.

The reader comes with materials for vocabulary pre-teaching and materials for solidifying learning of a few pages before moving on to the next two to four pages. My class spent about two weeks working through the whole book with lots of daily class time spent on choral reading, voluntarily reading aloud individually, and reading it in peer support circles and doing extension activities created by me, such as peer surveys and dialogues, daily weather reports, describing our clothing and colours, etc.

Here is a comprehension task I created for the government-mandated accountability system, "PBLA." There are two versions so that students cannot copy answers from a neighbour.
